The work acknowledges that there’s a fine line between trauma fatigue (one’s own or communal) and the hunger to confront trauma as a way towards recovery. The images of the artist’s past and her estranged mother in juxtaposition with her current reality represent the complexity of healing. The work incorporates crass and direct language, both with and without humour, as a way to stand in and emerge through the darkness of traumatic experiences. The artist calls it her moldy cake layers : being a child of rape, surviving years of sexual abuse by her step father and being a victim to a drugged rape by two men as a college student. She hopes that you cannot relate to her story, but if you can, then here is to the RAGE … and getting the shit out of your body. (Prune Juice is a home remedy for constipation.)
Images by Patrik Rastenberger and the artist.
